The evening will feature the following speaker:

Dr Robert Madden – Tools of the trade: traditional geological and mineralogical techniques applied in a commercial settingor, in other words, Robert looks at rocks!

Robert is a geologist and petrographer providing geological and mineralogical insights to a global portfolio of applications including mining and exploration, oil and gas, stratigraphy, construction and heritage settings. Robert consults from Microanalysis Australia, a commercial laboratory in Mt Lawley, Perth. Robert principally studies geological materials with thin sections and a petrographic microscope but also enjoys access to a suite of instruments including X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. In his talk Robert will attempt to share a bit of insight into his methods, processes, and applications along with a supporting host of fairly pretty pictures. The talk will be aimed at an introductory level accessible to all. It’s just after Xmas, so nothing too heavy”.
